Masseter Botox in Austin, TX: TMJ Relief and Jaw Slimming
Ease jaw clenching, grinding, and TMJ tension, and soften a square jawline, with expert masseter treatment at Austin Aesthetic Atelier in Austin, TX.

What Is Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox is a treatment that places neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau) into the masseter, the powerful muscle at the back of the jaw that you clench and chew with. It serves two purposes. Functionally, relaxing the masseter reduces the force of clenching and grinding, which can ease jaw tension, soreness, and the headaches that come with an overworked jaw. Aesthetically, when a wide or square lower face is driven by an enlarged masseter, calming the muscle allows it to gradually slim, softening the jawline into a more oval shape. At Austin Aesthetic Atelier, treatment is performed by a licensed nurse practitioner with advanced training in facial anatomy.
Am I a Good Candidate for Masseter Botox?
You may be a good candidate if you clench or grind your teeth (bruxism), wake with a sore or tight jaw, experience TMJ-related tension or jaw and temple headaches, or notice a square, heavy lower face from a well-developed jaw muscle. Many clients pursue treatment for the relief, the slimming, or both.
Masseter treatment works best alongside good dental care and is not a substitute for evaluation of a dental or joint problem. If jaw width comes from bone structure rather than muscle, slimming will be limited. Persistent or severe jaw pain should also be assessed by your dentist or physician, and we are happy to coordinate care. Your consultation is an honest assessment of what treatment can and cannot do for you.
What to Expect and Your Results
Treatment is quick and comfortable. After assessing your jaw and how you clench, neurotoxin is injected into the masseter on each side at carefully chosen points. The appointment takes only a few minutes. Relief from clenching and tension usually begins within one to two weeks, while visible jaw slimming develops more gradually over four to eight weeks and continues to refine with repeat treatments as the muscle reduces in bulk.
How Long Does Masseter Botox Last?
Relief from clenching and tension typically lasts about 3 to 4 months. Jaw-slimming results often last longer and can become more durable over time, since repeated treatment gradually reduces the size of the muscle. Most people maintain their result with a few treatments per year.
Recovery and Downtime
Masseter treatment has essentially no downtime. To support the best result, we generally recommend:
- Staying upright and avoiding firm pressure or massage on the area for the rest of the day.
- Avoiding strenuous exercise for the remainder of the day.
- Being aware that slight chewing fatigue is normal for the first week or two as the muscle relaxes, especially with firm or chewy foods.
Most people return to their normal routine right away.
Risks and Safety
Masseter treatment is well tolerated, and side effects are usually minor and temporary. They can include tenderness at the injection sites, brief chewing fatigue, and, uncommonly, mild asymmetry or a temporary change in the smile if the product affects nearby muscles. Precise placement and appropriate dosing by an experienced injector who understands the anatomy of the jaw are what keep the treatment both effective and safe.
At Austin Aesthetic Atelier, masseter treatment is performed by a licensed nurse practitioner. All risks are reviewed with you in detail during your in-person consultation.
Cost of Masseter Botox in Austin
Because every treatment is personalized to your anatomy and goals, we do not publish fixed pricing, which can be misleading out of context. The masseter is a large muscle and dosing is tailored to your jaw and your goal, so your plan reflects the expertise and time it requires. You will receive a clear, personalized quote at your consultation, and you are always welcome to call us with questions.
Alternatives and Complementary Care
Depending on your goals, other options may help, either instead of or alongside masseter treatment:
- A dental night guard from your dentist to protect your teeth from grinding, which pairs well with treatment.
- Jawline filler to add definition, a different goal from slimming a bulky muscle.
- Evaluation by your dentist or physician for persistent TMJ or jaw pain, which we can help coordinate.

Real Results
A recent case: A patient came in exhausted by morning jaw soreness and frequent tension headaches from clenching, and also felt her lower face looked wide and heavy. After a detailed consultation, her masseter muscles were treated on both sides. Within a couple of weeks her clenching and tension eased, and over the following weeks her jawline gradually softened into a slimmer, more balanced shape.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does masseter Botox help with jaw clenching and TMJ pain?
Yes. Relaxing the masseter reduces the force of clenching and grinding, easing jaw tension, soreness, and related headaches for many people. It works well with a night guard and is not a substitute for dental or medical evaluation of persistent pain.
Does masseter Botox slim the jawline?
When a wide or square lower face is caused by an enlarged masseter, relaxing it lets the muscle gradually reduce, softening the jawline over several weeks. If jaw width is from bone rather than muscle, slimming is limited.
How long does masseter Botox last?
Relief from clenching typically lasts about 3 to 4 months. Slimming often lasts longer and can become more durable over time as repeated treatment reduces the muscle. Most people maintain it with a few treatments per year.
Is there downtime after masseter Botox?
Essentially none. It takes only a few minutes and most people return to normal activities right away, though slight chewing fatigue is normal for the first week or two.
How soon will I notice results?
Relief from clenching often begins within one to two weeks. Visible slimming develops over four to eight weeks and continues to refine with repeat treatments.
